About hazard perception tests
All learner drivers regardless of their age, must complete and pass a car or motorcycle hazard perception test.
What is the hazard perception test?
Hazard perception tests check whether you can recognise potentially dangerous situations or hazards and respond to them safely.
There are 2 types of hazard perception tests:
There are 25 computer-generated videos in the hazard prevention test. You'll be asked to show how you would react to the situations in the videos. The situations you will be tested on are based on the most challenging for novice drivers and riders.
We recommend taking the test on a laptop or desktop computer, due to the bigger screen. You can take the test on any other compatible device. If you are doing the test on your mobile, you will need to be able to clearly see the screen.
There are no exemptions from taking this test—please message us or call 13 23 80 if you are unable to complete the online car hazard perception test.
Before you start a test
Once you have enrolled in the test, you will find instructions on how to complete the test.
A practice test is available before you begin and you can practice as many times as you like.
When you are ready, set aside some time to focus on the test. You must complete your hazard perception test in one sitting, you can't save your progress.
You can attempt the test as many times as you like. There is no lock-out period between attempts.
When you pass the test you will get an email confirmation and information on how to progress to the next licence stage.

Take the hazard perception test
You need to pay a fee before you can get access to the test. You will have access to the test for up to 12 months.

The hazard perception test will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes, you will need at least that amount of time connected to the internet.
Indigenous communities
An offline version of the car hazard perception test can be delivered by the Indigenous Driver Licensing Unit during their visits to communities. There is no offline version of the motorcycle hazard perception test able to be delivered.
